The role of the Lead Interior Designer is highly creative, being involved in the creation of new designs and the development of solutions to design problems for the interiors of our future vehicles. WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Essential:

  • Proficient illustration and visual evaluation skills to visually and verbally communicate ideas and solutions.
  • Proven experience of aesthetic judgement of surface, surface juxtaposition and appearance
  • Broad knowledge of engineering and production techniques and processes, and strong market / business acumen

Design Programme Lead

Design is responsible for the creative processes at the earliest stage of a project, through to the co-ordination of feasible solutions, and release of all class ‘A’ surfaces for tooling. The successful applicant will report to the Design Programme Manager and will be expected to work with all disciplines within design to coordinate and deliver programmes on time and budget.

WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

  • Provide liaison between Design, PD, Marketing, and Launch teams for your programme(s).
  • Establish, maintain and drive delivery of the Design Programme Framework (DPF) for your programmes, ensuring it aligns to the Vehicle Programme Framework (VPF) and assists all required PCDS or MSDS logic.
  • Deliver robust and timely Gateway deliverables for your programme(s), as part of the wider JLR PCDS or MSDS process.
  • Ensure all deliverables are clearly informed, understood, and the required forums are in place and correctly managed to escalate and resolve issues.
  • Discuss all programme assumptions (both within the approved cycle plan).
  • Ensure a consistent understanding of programme assumptions across the department to enable, along with the DPF, clear resource and model build requirements to be planned.
  • Ensure the overall programme resource provision assists the Design Programme Framework requirements and track resource status throughout programme delivery.
  • Ensure any programme assumption disconnects are identified quickly and appropriate forums are in place to drive resolution. Also Lead the programme change management systems to ensure Design understand any assumptions that change.
  • Work closely with the modelling teams to ensure efficient delivery of all design models (visions, clays, hard models, etc.), as well as associated models against the Design Programme Framework. This includes management of content, timing, review cadence, as well as an understanding of associated costs.
  • Ensure effective running of the design approval process, with help from Business Planner’s & Executive PA’s, for your programmes, including ensuring the appropriate material is prepared and in place to develop effective reviews.
  • Represent Design at key programme forums and ensure all your programmes’ key planning and status documents are created and maintained.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements across the department as well as opportunities for cross-functional efficiencies to deliver all design programmes on time, on cost, and on quality. 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Essential:

  • Automotive OEM experience, supporting programme aesthetic development
  • Degree level qualifications or equivalent experience in Engineering / Design / Creative discipline
  • Project Lead / Management experience, dealing with timing, cost and resource systems
  • Strong communications knowledge with people of all levels and expertise; notably Design, Marketing, Programme
  • The ability to drive the team to deliver a cost/time efficient solution to the Design aspiration
  • Flexibility – as programme workload changes the candidate would be expected to work at Gaydon or from Home

Lead Designer, Visual Communications

THE ROLE

This role has the lead responsibility for visual communication representing colour and materials strategy for Jaguar and Land Rover Core, SV and some Bespoke programmes. 

As a Visual Communication Lead Designer, you will create strategic presentations internal and external communication content to best represent C&M strategy and create innovative graphic signifiers and strategy for our brand families for interior and exterior applications.  This role will be focused on visual communication and product graphic strategy. Creative presentation skills and product knowledge are key to the role. 

Key Responsibilities will include:

C&M TEAM VISUAL COMMUNICATION

  • Create or further develop a graphic style/ language for all Colour and Material presentation material. Templates to be updated for both digital and physical presentations and provided to the team.
  • Creation of visual assets that communicate strategies, from icons to info graphics. 
  • Be a key point of contact for collaborators outside of Colour and Material Design organisation, for example DVA and Interior Design. Continue to grow these cross-discipline relationships. Be the benchmark for briefing material.
  • Collaborate on creating a visual language for spaces for both internal and external events – when required.
  • Communication tools – Take away’s and handouts. Develop a library of reference for the team – for digital and physical use.
  • Develop and simplify key Colour and Material messages, creating exciting and impactful visual communication.

STRATEGIC VISUAL COMMUNICATION

  • Strategic presentation and communication for both internal and externally facing audiences.
  • Create clear strategies that outline our graphical signifiers now and in the future, this are to include all products families. Consider key development areas such as BEV or Autonomy, how do we create future proof signifiers that become brand assets.

ON PRODUCT GRAPHIC STRATEGY

  • Lead and become a key contributor to the graphic strategy on projects and key flagship programmes (Core, SV, Bespoke and Personalisation).
  • On product graphic support, from individual vehicles to strategic graphical strategies, this includes perforation, embroidery, speaker details, finishers and C&M led badging – from exterior to seat labels.
  • Support and collaborate on Limited Edition vehicles with graphic design content support as required.
  • Support high profile launch planning projects that require senior level visual communication presentations.
  • Graphic development plays a big part in creating the best possible relationship between materials and form. Prepare supplier direction and briefs, support team members to do so. 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

In order to be considered for this position it is advantageous to hold a formal qualification such as Degree qualified or equivalent experience preferred; proven creative and presentation skills, including advanced use of Adobe package software: Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign software and ability to use internet resources appropriately for research purposes; a good understanding of product, interior, the design industry in general and automotive design combined with good aesthetic judgement.

Studio Engineer

WHAT TO EXPECT

As a Studio Engineer, you will be part of a team responsible for the Design and Feasibility development of a single vehicle zone for a single car-line.

You will be creating feasible CAD based geometric proposals to primarily deliver Design Intent, providing proactive input to the Creative Design teams throughout, ensuring the aesthetic development remains feasible for a given vehicle zone.

You will be assessing compatibility of Design Intent against Programme Assumptions and Attribute Targets. You will also generate feasible creative alternative proposals where necessary, in order to meet the Design Intent and challenge assumptions, proposing alternative attribute balances and delivering high Design and Crafted Quality results.

You will be prioritising issues and setting the agenda for design feasibility meetings to discuss and resolve issues at a working level between internal and external customers. You will be working alongside creative designers, 3D modelling teams, product engineering teams, and advanced manufacturing to make sure that the projects you are assigned to are feasible. 

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

You will be someone that has the ability to think creatively in order to solve 3D technical and feasibility issues, as well as strong experience within an Engineering environment delivering vehicle package, system, component, or attribute driven technical solutions.

You will have the technical experience required to work in a cross functional team to deliver feasible solutions while maintaining the design aesthetic, in order to resolve difficult feasibility issues.

You will have a good knowledge of the design department and process, as well as the communication skills required to present ideas and concepts to people of all levels and expertise. You will be able to apply business acumen and will have a customer driven mindset to deliver designs.

CG Artist

WHAT TO EXPECT

The Design Visualisation and Animation department is a highly creative team that provides a high level of visual output including; animations, stills, live, virtual presentation material, filming and motion graphics using industry recognised software and processes. These creative outputs are used to assist Design in achieving gateways, Design Forums and various other high level Design reviews throughout the wider business. The team also have the responsibility for delivering externally facing assets in the form of Photo-realistic images, Launch animations, Web Configurator, Filming and Graphical Assets.

This function has the responsibility for all aspects of Digital Visualisation. The role is multi-facing, dealing with many customers both internal and external including suppliers (utilising existing vendors and researching new processes and technologies). 

WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

  • The ability to create 3D Still and animated images.
  • Assist with data preparation of CAS models for use within Visualisation toolsets.
  • Working within a team, have the ability to work in a transparent and professional manner, assisting all design disciplines, whilst maintaining a flexible, pro-active approach.
  • Identify potential process or system improvements where applicable
  • Assist, when requested with all virtual reviews, presentations, market research events or product launches located within JLR Design or externally

As a D grade A Class Surface Engineer, you will be part of a team working alongside experienced A Class Surface Engineers under the direction of a manager.  You will liaise between Design and Engineering as you deliver A Class Surface CAD models for key interior components and assemblies to timing schedules adhering to design intent and engineering and manufacturing requirements.  You will be expected to have A Class ICEM Surf experience that enable you to produce world class levels in your geometry output, meeting specified quality targets and sharing skills with team members whilst benchmarking best in class craftmanship solutions.

WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

  • To digitally model interior components and assemblies using ICEM Surf delivering feasible data on time that achieves design intent.
  • To deliver best in class optical quality solutions dealing with conflict between design, engineering and manufacturing.
  • Show expertise in CAD design to control the shape and highlights of the vehicle interiors.
  • Work with inhouse and external resource to deliver CAD design to specified quality standards.
  • Be responsible for the accurate construction of the CAD to any given task and challenge and for it’s release into the PLM system

  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience preferred

Desirable:

  • CATIA V5/V6 knowledge & TCE system experience
  • Confident user of Microsoft Office applications; notably PowerPoint, Excel and Word
  • VRED knowledge
  • Good understanding of Optical Quality process.

  • A ambitious mind set to problems which can anticipate the norm but push the boundaries
